Reunite Olivia with her birthmother - Alice
Because Amy knew that finding Olivia’s mother
was a long shot, she figured that the least they could do was to treat
her and some of her friends to a day at a spa. According to Olivia, they
were having the best day of their lives.
While Olivia and her friends were getting
pampered, Amy was working with Pat Rutherford, a private investigator, to
try and track down Olivia’s mother. They struck out at their first two
stops, the courthouse and the library, but Pat told Amy that he’d keep at
it.
Amy followed up on a lead on Olivia’s mom that
Pat found. Her name is Alice and she was living only 90 minutes away. With
the address in hand, Amy drove to the house and knocked on the door. Amy
described a look of “absolute relief” on Alice’s face when she told her
about her daughter.
Amy sat down with Alice to talk about Olivia and
the decision to give her up for adoption. Alice was 16 when she had
Olivia, and the father told her – after she became pregnant – that he was
married and that his wife was also pregnant. Alice felt that she simply
could not take care of a baby. Alice’s own wish was that she and Olivia
could be a family of some kind.
Olivia had another secret wish… to perform with
Amy Grant on stage. On a clear evening, Amy and Olivia sang a song
together to a cheering crowd. At the end of the song, Amy announced that
Olivia’s mom was there.
Everyone clapped and cheered as Olivia turned
around and saw her birth-mother for the first time. The two of them hugged
each other tight, sharing a special bond and filling a void in their
lives. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. But there was one more
surprise… Amy introduced Olivia to a sister she didn’t even know she had.
