This is the story of Ofelia, Arleeta and Marion. Arleeta was told when she was five, she was adopted. About the age of 14, she wanted to find her Mom and she's been looking for her ever since. Her adoptive mother, Marion, contacted the Gene & Julie Show and asked them to help her find her daughter's birth mother.
Gene & Julie came to us for help.
We knew from the beginning the birth mother's name was Ofelia, which has an unusal spelling. We had been looking for Ophelia and we would never have found her with that spelling. It wasn't until we petitioned the court and Pat Rutherford founder of Worldwide Tracers and the Adoption Search Bureau was appointed
Intermediary that we received the correct spelling of the birth mother's name, which cracked the case wide open. I had her within four days of receiving the court papers.
Ofelia is a very sweet lady who, because of circumstances in her life at the time, was forced to give her baby girl up for adoption. She was a single mom who already had five children and just couldn't afford another mouth to feed. She was unselfish enough to realize this and gave the baby up for adoption to someone
who could give her what she couldn't.
Ofelia and Arleeta were reunited on the Gene & Julie show this morning by telephone. Gene & Julie are flying Ofelia and her daughter, Marie, to Atlanta next week to meet Arleeta & Marion. Everyone is very excited as they will get to spend two days and nights together.
After speaking with each other this morning, Ofelia and Marion realized they both worked for the same window company during Ofelia's pregnancy, but they never realized one had adopted the other's baby! The two families only lived about 12 miles from each other. What a small world!
I love this job!
Jeff Crilley approached Worldwide Tracers to conduct a story about the adoption laws in Texas. He chose one of his producers, Mark, to assist with the project; Mark was searching for his birthmother. Worldwide Tracers located Mark's birthmother in record time, but as is the case in some adoption cases, mom was not quite ready to have her face and her story broadcast across the country. Pat Rutherford is the intermediary for this case, (Pat has been appointed intermediary by many courts throughout the country). Mark and his birthmother have exchanged some of the most beautiful, touching letters (of course we read them!). They have exchanged pictures, (the similarities are startling) and we have learned that Mark has a half brother and half sister who currently know nothing of the birth or adoption. Stay tuned for this reunion. We are hoping that things will fall together this fall, possibly November. In the meantime, read more about Jeff Crilley and his new book, FREE PUBLICITY !
